Students on Leaves of Absence

A student on an approved leave of absence receivse the same borrowing privileges as Courtesy Borrowers, meaning that they can access physical materials, but not most electronic resources. See our Courtesy Borrowing page for more information.

If a student on leave of absence cannot make it to the Penn Libraries and requires access to materials and/or electronic resources held by Penn, they should contact their local public library to inquire about interlibrary loan services. Interlibrary loan allows the student to have books, articles, or select pages of book chapters be sent from the Penn Libraries to their local library for free.

A student on leave can still submit questions to library staff if they need help locating an article or the correct chapter of a book from the Penn Libraries. They can then share this information with their local library, who may be able to help the student obtain the materials.
