Ben supports faculty and students of all backgrounds with integrating spatial analysis into learning and research. He enjoys enabling others to form new insights into communities and environments through the use of accessible GIS technology, and is particularly interested in enabling research for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Ben has previously worked as a programmer for Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he facilitated the transfer of big-geodata machine learning applications to supercomputers and other cutting edge computer hardware. He also instructed introductory GIS classes at the University of Illinois, and conducted research on social media behavior during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ben graduated in 2022 with an M.S. in Geographic Information Science, with a concentration in Computational Science, from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and a B.A. in Computer Science from Earlham College.
