In 2007, Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad, a street of booksellers, was targeted by a car bomb. Thirty-five people were killed and more than one hundred people were injured.

We invite members of our community to bring poems to share to commemorate this attack as part of the larger Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here project, either in Arabic or English. These readings are dedicated to free speech and to the idea that culture cannot be erased, and are taking place this year in Iraq, Canada, Italy, The U.K., The United States, and Cyprus.

Mr. Mohammad Iraqi, a former bookseller on Al-Mutanabbi Street, will also share about his experience. This event will share space with the Shadow and Light exhibit on view through April. No registration is required.

Note: This program is meant to center the experience of Iraqis.
