Coffee with a Codex: Commentary on a Commentary

An informal lunch or coffee time to meet virtually with Kislak curators and talk about one of the manuscripts from Penn's collections. Each week we'll feature a different manuscript and the expertise of one of our curators. Everyone is welcome to attend.

On October 15, curator Dot Porter will be joined by Judaica Special Collections Cataloging Librarian Louis Meiselman, who will show us an early manuscript of Aṿat nefesh, a supercommentary to Abraham ibn Ezra's commentary on the Pentateuch supplying quotations, explanations, and summaries of rational interpretations. Written in Bohemia by Joel b. Joseph Schalit, a Turnau scribe, during the second half of the 15th century.
