Coffee with a Codex: Two Notated Liturgical Books, a joint event with the University of Rochester
To welcome you to the 2026-2027 academic year, we're starting Coffee With A Codex on September 3rd with a special one-hour event featuring two large liturgical books with musical notation.
Hosted by: SIMS and Kislak Center
An informal lunch or coffee time to meet virtually with Kislak curators and talk about one of the manuscripts from Penn's collections. Each week we'll feature a different manuscript and the expertise of one of our curators. Everyone is welcome to attend.
To welcome you to the 2026-2027 academic year, we're starting on September 3rd with a special one-hour event featuring two large liturgical books with musical notation. Curator Dot Porter will be joined by Anna Siebach-Larsen, Ph.D., Director of the Rossell Hope Robbins Library and Koller-Collins Center for English Studies at the University of Rochester. Dot will have Ms. Codex 1233, a notated breviary written in Cologne around 1450 and used continuously through the 18th century, and Anna will bring out a notated gradual. Note that we'll be meeting for a full hour, so plan accordingly!
Note that the Zoom links for Coffee With a Codex are reusable - register once and attend every Thursday at 12pm EST / 5pm GMT.
