Coffee with a Codex: Ascetic miscellany

An informal lunch or coffee time to meet virtually with Kislak curators and talk about one of the manuscripts from Penn's collections. Each week we'll feature a different manuscript and the expertise of one of our curators. Everyone is welcome to attend.

On July 3, Curator Dot Porter brought out Ms. Codex 717, an ascetic miscellany containing a selection of works related to self-privation, including an anonymous tract on the art of dying well, and one on "the misery of human condition" by Lothar of Segni, later Pope Innocent III. It was written in Italy ca. 1470. (OPenn, BiblioPhilly, Internet Archive, CWAC Recording)
