When a French Jewish army officer was wrongly accused of treason in 1894, few people considered the possibility that he had been a victim of antisemitism. It fell to a very small group of unlikely allies to label and combat that antisemitism, often at their own expense and over the objections of others. Their work paved the way for the first modern fight against one of humanity's longest hatreds and changed the way we talk about it, even a century later.
