Introduction to GeoDa: Mapping and Understanding Spatial Relationships

Geography is a major factor which influences many aspects of our daily life, such as crime, real estate prices, the intensity of wildfires, and disease outbreaks. How can we use insights from geography to predict these outcomes, and make policy decisions to address these challenges?

In this workshop, we will learn how to answer these questions using the GIS toolkit. Whether you’re interested in public health, history, real estate, climate change science, criminology, or any other field that looks at clusters of people, events, and services, spatial autocorrelation is an approach to gaining deeper insights from spatial information.

No prior GIS or mapping experience is required. GeoDa is a free, open source software available for Mac and PC.

This workshop is part of Penn GIS Day 2024, a celebration of the fascinating world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
