Music in the Stacks: Penn Glee Club

A collaboration between the Albrecht Music Library and the Department of Music, Music in the Stacks brings Penn musicians into library spaces for performances throughout the year.

In this edition, the renowned Penn Glee Club will make its Music in the Stacks debut in the Chemistry Library reading room (fourth floor of the Chemistry Building).  

About the Penn Glee Club

Founded on November 5, 1862, the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club is the oldest performing arts group at Penn. Members wore red and blue ribbons at the debut concert — the first use of Penn’s colors in uniform. Since then, the Club has represented the University across the nation and abroad, performing at major events such as Convocation, Homecoming, Alumni Weekend, and Commencement.

Touring internationally since 1959, the Glee Club has visited nearly all 50 states and over 50 nations. It first sang at the White House for President Calvin Coolidge in 1926 and has since performed for numerous world leaders. Now in its 164th season, the Club blends heritage with modern artistry, preserving Penn’s traditions while showcasing choral excellence and theatrical showmanship. One of the oldest collegiate Glee Clubs in the U.S., it has albums on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music.

Free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged for Penn Community and required for non-PennCard-holders. Penn faculty, staff, and students must swipe their PennCard for access. Visitors from outside the Penn community must present a current, valid government or school-issued photo I.D. that contains an expiration date and sign in with the security guard.
