Two studying the manuscript

Since summer 2023, a team from the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies, Cultural Heritage Computing, and Research Data and Digital Scholarship at Penn Libraries has been exploring handwritten text recognition (HTR) and AI tools to transcribe and study digitized manuscript collections. We are now exploring the possibility of setting up an interest group composed of librarians, curators, programmers, faculty, and students to explore how we may work together to use these technologies in our research and teaching.

In this meeting, we will present the results of our work so far, demonstrating the research value of using HTR at Penn Libraries. We will also share our newly launched webpage with resources and our progress to date.

If you are interested in presenting at one of our Wednesday at 12:00 events, please fill out the Penn Libraries Presents form.
