They Want Me to Think WHAT? Recognizing Bias in Science News

All authors have agendas, even authors who are reporting on scientific topics. This session will teach you to recognize the reliability of a science news article even if you aren’t super familiar with the science it contains. Through a series of hands-on activities, we will examine the purpose for which an article was written, its intended audience, and the background and agenda of the author. We will also attempt to put our own “spin” on short pieces about familiar topics to heighten our awareness of the techniques authors use to draw attention to their material.
