When you finish your dissertation (or any other work), one question you may run into is whether you should to register with the United States Copyright Office. People often believe that you need to register to make sure that you work is "copyrighted." However, copyright registration in the United States is not required for protection. Nevertheless, even if registration isn't required, it still offers some benefits, is relatively easy to do, and so it is worth considering.

In this session, copyright advisor Stephen Wolfson will explain what copyright registration is, what purposes it serves and what benefits its provides, and and why you may (or may not) want to register your dissertation with the Copyright Office.
