Re/Make History: Crafting the Past with 21st-Century Technologies
Drawing creative inspiration from rare books of the Museum Library and artifacts from the Penn Museum, Penn staff and students created replicas and new works of art using makerspaces on campus.
Rare books and archaeological artifacts serve both as subjects of study and as sources of inspiration for emerging design tools and modern fabrication technologies. Drawing upon digital files and human expertise supplied by the Penn Museum and the Museum Library, Penn staff and students created replicas and new works of art in three campus makerspaces: Education Commons, the Bollinger Digital Fabrication Lab, and Venture Lab. Through experiential learning, the contributors to this exhibit cultivated creativity and new technological skills while deepening their appreciation of cultural heritage.
