Support Our Student Opportunities
Support for student enterprise at the Penn Libraries enables us to provide access to information and essential services that create new avenues for scholarly achievement, all while better positioning Penn to deliver on its educational mission.
The student experience is at the heart of the Penn Libraries’ mission to produce, preserve, and provide access to knowledge. Support for student enterprise at the Penn Libraries enables us to provide access to information and essential services that create new avenues for scholarly achievement, all while better positioning Penn to deliver on its educational mission.
Donor-supported student opportunities prepare Penn students to function skillfully and competitively in an ever-changing world. Examples include:
Hoesley Digital Literacy Program
Established by a generous gift from Penn Libraries Director’s Circle member James “Jim” Hoesley (former Penn Libraries Advisor) and his wife Sandra “Sandee” Hoesley, this program encourages creative exploration of technologies commonly used in a rapidly evolving 21st century workplace and beyond, in collaboration with Career Services, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF). Throughout the experience, Hoesley Fellows receive hands-on training and support as they develop a professional website and career-related digital project of their choice.
Seltzer Family Digital Media Awards
Thanks to the generosity of Jeff Seltzer W'78 and his wife Annie, the award provides up to $1,000 to Penn undergraduate students for the purchase of equipment (both hardware and software) and supplies to support a new media project for up to one year. (After one year, equipment purchased through the award will return to the Weigle Information Commons for general use.) Examples of items that support new media projects include: digital video cameras, audio recorders, virtual reality camera peripherals, microphones, scanners, mobile devices, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) devices.
H. Jane Gutman Library Fellowship Fund
Established in 2007, the H. Jane Gutman Library Fellowship Fund provides financial support to one or more Gutman Library Fellows each year, who are selected from undergraduate applicants who have demonstrated financial need and who are interested in having an intensive exposure to some aspect of academic librarianship.
