The Steven A. Lipman Librarian position was created in 2025 with a generous gift from Steven A. Lipman, C’71. As a history major at Penn, Lipman developed close relationships with professors who became lifelong mentors. To honor his time at Penn and give back to the Penn community, he established an endowed fund to support the University’s humanities librarian position.
The Lipman Librarian is responsible for selecting material in all formats and providing instructional assistance in support of the fields of philosophy, U.S. history, world history, classical studies, and general humanities. They provide access to research materials and advise on collections-related planning and policy.
