For July, Holman Biotech Commons would like to highlight Philadelphia native Bebe Moore Campbell. Bebe Moore Campbell is an American author, teacher, and mental health advocate for minorities. 

Elizabeth Bebe Moore was born and raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls. Campbell co-founded the National Alliance On Mental Illness Urban Los Angeles and became an advocate for mental health and eliminating the stigma of mental health in diverse communities. Campbell addresses the impact of racism and mental health in her books- “Sometimes My Mommy Gets Angry,” a child’s Perspective of a parent having a mental illness and 72 Hour Hold- A Mother help her Child with the only option that the community has: 72- hour hold and their life after the hold. Congress announced July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in 2008.
