Just Launched: U.S. Women’s and Girls’ Magazines Web Archive

The Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation is pleased to announce the launch of the U.S. Women’s and Girls’ Magazines Web Archive. Developed by librarians within the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation, the archive consists of websites of women’s media that previously existed as print magazines and have long documented women’s thoughts, activities, economic power, sexuality, political interests, social, cultural, and domestic life. Curated by Jennifer Weintraub (Harvard University), Lee Sullivan (Harvard University), Sarah Witte (Columbia University), and Sara Howard (Princeton University), the U.S. Women’s and Girls’ Magazines Web Archive enables libraries to continue to capture and extend collections of serial publications that document women’s lives and culture.

Web archives preserve vulnerable information that may disappear from the live web and capture the ways in which selected websites have evolved over time. The Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation’s Web Resources Collection Program is a collaborative collection development effort to build curated, thematic collections of freely available, but at-risk, web content in order to support research at participating libraries and beyond. Learn more about the program and explore additional collections here.
