Modern generative artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Sora, Midjourney, Github Copilot, and Claude, raise many complex questions under copyright law. In this workshop, copyright advisor Stephen Wolfson will explore two important developments in this space.

In this talk, copyright advisor Stephen Wolfson will dig into the newly published study from the United States Copyright Office on the copyrightability of generative AI outputs. Then he will discuss a recent case involving the legal research database, Westlaw, and whether training an AI tool on copyrighted works constitutes fair use.
