Lonya Humphrey
Lonya is the bibliographer and subject librarian for political science, including international relations and government administration, with subject liaison duties to those communities within the School of Arts & Sciences. Lonya also coordinates the Penn Libraries’ federal, Pennsylvania, and United Nations depository library collections, and oversees the local, state, foreign national, and international government documents collections.
Before coming to Penn, Lonya worked as the Librarian for Social Sciences and Data at NYU-Abu Dhabi, where she assisted with the discovery, acquisition, and use of social science data resources to promote research data management, data literacy, and use of data resources for the NYUAD community. She also served as subject liaison to departments of Political Science, Economics, and the Social Research and Public Policy (SSRP) program.
She has worked as a reference and instruction librarian for over 15 years providing research services across various social science disciplines. She began her career at SUNY Buffalo as a Senior Assistant Librarian, providing general research and reference services. Lonya spent the next five years with Georgetown University, first providing in-depth legal research at Georgetown's Edward Bennett Williams and John Wolff International and Comparative Law Libraries. Her career with Georgetown continued with the 2005 start-up and opening of the School of Foreign Service in Doha, Qatar's Education City. As an original member of the School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) founding team, Lonya provided research support for international affairs and politics, economics, government, history, philosophy, and religion. After returning to the U.S. in 2008, Lonya worked as the Social Sciences Librarian for the Tulane University Howard-Tilton Memorial Library in New Orleans, LA.
Lonya holds a Master of Political Science from Wayne State University, a Master of Library and Information Science from SUNY Buffalo, and a B.A. in French Studies from Dillard University.
