Collection Overview

In 2023, the Penn Libraries began collecting ebooks and audiobooks through the OverDrive platform. The decision responded to increased demand for a wider range of formats and access points to our materials. OverDrive and the accompanying Libby app enabled the Libraries not only to offer electronic titles through an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, but also to increase the availability of and access to audiobooks.

Scope

The collection's scope is popular fiction and nonfiction titles for leisurely reading or listening, as well as casual learning. This may include: literary fiction, genre fiction, juvenile/YA fiction and nonfiction, comics and graphic novels, popular magazines, memoirs and biographies, trade books, cookbooks, special-interest books, and more.

Content

Currently, the collection contains over 10,000 ebook and audiobook titles. To these have been added two large-scale subscriptions: 1) All-Access Comics, a selection of over 4,000 comics, mangas, and graphic novels, and 2) OverDrive's popular magazine catalog, comprised of nearly 5,000 titles spanning 24 languages.

Access

Available to Penn faculty, students, and staff, these titles may be accessed by computer browser or, more conveniently, through the free Libby app on phones or tablets. Individual titles are discoverable through the library's catalog, while the complete collection may be browsed by from the Penn Libraries OverDrive homepage.
