Cyanotype Creation
A hands-on cyanotype printing workshop where students learn UV-based photographic processes and safely create their own experimental prints while building creative problem-solving skills.
Hosted by: Education Commons
Cyanotype Creation
In this hands-on workshop, students learn how cyanotype printing works by exploring the role of UV light and photosensitive chemicals, then independently create their own cyanotype prints using proper materials, safety practices, and exposure techniques. Through experimentation and iteration, students develop creative problem-solving skills valued in fields such as design, marketing, science, engineering, and other innovation-driven careers.
Learning Goal:
Students will learn how early photographic processes worked, exploring the chemistry behind light-sensitive materials and gaining insight into the origins of photographic technology.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the session, students will be able to explain the cyanotype process and independently create a cyanotype print while developing experimentation, iteration, and problem-solving skills through hands-on practice.
Please note: This is Part 2 of a two-part workshop series. Designing Your Own Digital Negative—Part 1—will be held in the Vitale Digital Media Lab on April 10. We encourage you to register for both sessions.
