EC: Intro to Vacuum Forming for Packaging Design Part 2 of 2

Become your own product designer by learning to use a vacuum former!

Learn how to utilize one of the most widely used manufacturing processes in the history of humankind with a Vacuum Former. Use 3D printing or existing objects to create a mold that can be used for a variety of applications, such as packaging, chocolate making, soap molds, and more. This program will allow you to finalize making a sample mini toy inspired by an object from the Penn Museum’s collection. With this program, you will have access to a new type of technology and implement product designs first hand using our makerspace equipment. This session blends digital creativity with practical skills, fostering interdisciplinary thinking through an engaging, hands-on approach.

Please note: This is Part 2 of a two-part workshop series. Intro to AI for Packaging Design—Part 1—will be held in the Education Commons on September 12. We encourage you to register for both sessions. In Part 1, you’ll learn how to use Generative AI to design custom cardboard backing for a mini toy inspired by an object from the Penn Museum’s collection.

This workshop is part of our Re/Make History exhibit in partnership with the Penn Museum Library. Participants will have the option to showcase their finished packaged toys in the Spring 2026 exhibition. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the museum’s collections through creative, tactile exploration—bringing history to life, one handmade piece at a time.
