Grad Cafe: Preparing to Share Your Research Data
This workshop will teach researchers the steps needed to prepare research data for deposit into a data repository.
This workshop will teach researchers the steps that need to be taken to prepare research data for deposit into a data repository. Sharing research data is a common requirement by journals, publishers, funders, so even if you don't think you need to share your data, it is good to be prepared! Making your research data available for others improves trust in your research, supports reproducibility, and increases your citation count.
We will go over how to:
- identify what data you can share (sensitivity, data size, intellectual property)
- assess what aspects of your research data are useful to share with others
- create quality documentation to ensure others can reuse your data (README files, data dictionaries, etc.)
The main audience for this workshop is graduate students who are working with research data. This session is discipline-agnostic and applies to all researchers.
Curious about how to identify a data repository to deposit your dataset into? Reach out to Research Data Engineer, Lauren Phegley, to schedule a consultation and check out the Data Management Resources Guide.
Support for Publishing Workshops
This workshop is part of a series hosted by the Libraries in collaboration with the Grad Center at Penn. Each workshop focuses on an element of the research or publishing process. During the semester, take part in in-person workshops covering citation management, impact metrics, promoting your work, selecting the right publishing venue, fair use, and more. See the full suite of workshops to support you as you make progress toward your publishing goals. Check back to keep track of new workshops being added.
The Grad Cafe series through the Grad Center, in collaboration with other campus partners, features resources and tips that will help you successfully navigate your academic experiences at Penn. Campus partners share best practices to benefit all graduate and professional students. Healthy snacks, coffee, and tea are provided. We encourage you to BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug)! Please note that sessions are held in Van Pelt Library, not the Grad Center. Our event begins promptly at 3:15pm so please arrive early to find your snack and seat. A Penn graduate ID is required for entry.
