Brigitte Weinsteiger
Brigitte Weinsteiger was appointed the H. Carton Rogers III Vice Provost and Director of Libraries at the University of Pennsylvania in June 2024. In this position, Weinsteiger leads the expansive Penn Libraries system, which includes nineteen physical libraries and holds approximately 9.8 million volumes, along with substantial electronic resources and digital assets. Her leadership focuses on advancing the role of libraries to inspire learning and fuel the creation of knowledge by enabling current and future generations to access and contribute to the scholarly and cultural record.
Prior to her current position, Weinsteiger was the Gershwind & Bennett Family Senior Associate Vice Provost for Collections & Scholarly Communication at the Penn Libraries. In that role, she led the organizational strategy for the library's comprehensive collections, preservation, academic engagement, and scholarly communications programs. She is also an active contributor to the library science field through numerous publications and professional engagements, respected across the academic library community for her expertise related to sustainable open access and the future of scholarly communications.
Weinsteiger holds a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Drexel University, and dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Medieval Studies and Integrative Arts from the Pennsylvania State University.
