In addition to processing archival collections, Sam creates, maintains, and updates manuals, workflows, and other documentation regarding archival processing, including the handling and format migration of born-digital and audiovisual materials.

Sam held various appointments at the College of Charleston, including Archival Processing Assistant, Interim Registrar for the John Rivers Communications Museum, Project Digitization and Metadata Specialist (NHPRC), and Reference Archivist.

He holds a BA from the College of Charleston, where he studied music composition and piano performance, and an MLIS from McGill University.
