Join us at The Fabric Workshop and Museum exhibit, You Stretched Diagonally Across It: Contemporary Tapestry, for a guided tour of the displayed tapestries featuring various computational techniques. Following the tour, participants will have the opportunity to incorporate data points from the exhibit into their own tapestry creations.
Highlights include Jacquard loom weaving (the precursor to modern computers), tapestries woven with pine needles and cochineal illustrating the Hubble Space Telescope, sonic data woven from Philadelphia data centers, geological timescale data carpets, algorithm flowcharts visualized on fabric and acrylic, and more.
This is an in-person (at The Fabric Workshop and Museum), beginner-friendly, non-technical workshop, that is a part of the AI Literacy Interest Group 2026 Book Club Series, themed around Empire of AI by Karen Hao. It is not necessary to read the book beforehand.
