Don’t miss out on Penn Libraries’ Open Access Week workshops, which are being held October 20-24, 2025. Discover how open access agreements boost a publication’s visibility and impact, allowing online articles to be freely available through Penn Libraries. All students, faculty, and researchers are welcome to attend regardless of prior knowledge or experience.

Free Open Access Publishing Through Penn Libraries’Agreements with Publishers

  • When: October 21, 11:00 a.m.
  • Where: Virtual

Explore Penn Libraries’ various open access publishing models and agreements. Key topics include Article Processing Charges (APCs), “hybrid” and “gold” open access, and the various publishers affiliated with Penn Libraries. The workshop will be presented by Holly Zerber, Head of Collections at Penn Libraries.

Intro to the Academic Publishing Lifecycle

  • When: October 21, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Where: Research Data and Digital Scholarship Exchange (RDDSx), Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, First Floor

Learn how to identify the best platforms to publish your work, adhere to submission guidelines, and navigate the review and publication process. The workshop will primarily focus on journal articles with some coverage of scholarly monographs and edited works.

Open Source Geospatial Data and Tools

  • When: October 23, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Where: Research Data and Digital Scholarship Exchange (RDDSx), Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, First Floor

Examine the open source mapping software used to chart and analyze different locations. Programs covered include OpenStreetMap (OSM), QGIS, and OpenDataPhilly.
