Overview
Collection Description
The Penn Libraries has a large, broad sociology collection mostly housed in Van Pelt Library's LC classes HM-HX. Its strengths are in method and theory, stratification and inequality, social control, deviance, urban studies, medical sociology (with Biomedical Library), sociology of organizations (with Lippincott Library), demography, socialization and the life course, ethnicity and U.S. minority groups. The collection co-exists with strong collections in criminology, social policy & practice, and economics. Related materials are held at the Museum Library (cultural anthropology, ethnography, material culture), Fisher Fine Arts Library (urban design, city planning), and the Annenberg School Library (communication, media). A large collection of older works (the "Dewey 300s") at LIBRA is retrievable through the campus libraries.
